~ GOD TALK ~
~ CHAPLAIN'S PAGE ~

MY NAME IS CHAPLAIN VIRGINIA NORRIS. I COUNT IT A GREAT HONOR TO BE YOUR CHAPLAIN. ONE OF THE GREAT LESSONS GOD TEACHES US IS THAT HE WANTS TO BE OUR GUIDE THROUGHOUT EACH DAY, HELPING US MAKE DECISIONS AND TEACHING US TO BE BETTER KIDS AND GROWN UPS.

Have you ever met someone who was not very nice to you? You many want some ideas about what to be when someone says something bad about you, whether that's in school, around your neighborhood, and just about anywhere else. Here are some tips:

TIP #1: Try to understand other kids. Some kids are not grown up enough to appreciate people for who they are. All they can see is what's on the outside of a person-how they look, how they dress. Sometimes kids can be unkind or just in a grumpy mood that makes them find something they don't like about you. Even grown ups can be in a bad mood. People aren't perfect! If we ask God, he can help us be better people (so we don't say that unkind thing) and we can also pray for others to be kinder with God's help.

TIP #2: Is the put down true? Usually it isn't but READ ON.

TIP #3: Did you speak the put down? Did it come out of your mouth? No. It came from the other person. It is theirs to understand and correct. (If you said that unkind thing, though, then you have to own it.)
TIP #4: That kid who said the put down was not nice. Remember, though, that God does love them a lot. God is not happy about what is inside them and what they are saying. God is near to you. Pray to God for that kid and try to do something nice for them. That kid may not know that every one is valuable to God. If you help them by your example, maybe they will think more carefully about saying hurtful words and come to understand how much God loves them.

We'll have more tips next time. In the meantime, if you have a tip to share about getting along with others with God's help, please send it along to me and we'll try to share it on this site.
When we ask Jesus to come into our hearts, He comes and lives in our spirit. Then it is easier to find Him and we feel happy. The more we talk to Him and love Him, the more our spirits grow and become strong. As our spirits become stronger, it becomes easier to have God for a friend.
