NEW
BEGINNINGS, DATES, AND A FEW OTHER
TIMELY THOUGHTS BY THE DIRECTOR
2004
is well underway. Children's Worldwide
Poetry for Peace is celebrating its
beginnings-the site's 1-YEAR ANNIVERSARY
in March. How blessed we are that
each of you visit. Thank YOU.
The
Vernal Equinox occurs on March 20.
In other words, SPRING BEGINS! Now
that is also a wonderful blessing
to anticipate for those of us struggling
with cold, ice, and various other
woes of winter. When SPRING comes,
we know Easter and Passover will soon
appear on the calendar in April.

April
is National Poetry Month, coordinated
by the Academy of American Poets.
Activities of all kinds are being
scheduled. Students will be given
deadlines to submit sparkling poems,
those unique statements of thoughts
and feelings only they, each of them,
can write.
Our
lives are planned by many dates, times,
schedules, calendars-all very important.
Yet, how wonderful just to kick back,
find a peaceful place, and daydream.

As
seed catalogs have started to arrive
in the mail, I let myself think
about new beginnings. Picturing
this year's garden is a wonderful
pastime as I wait for SPRING. In
a store the other day, I spied the
seed packets, each with a beautiful
picture of a flower or a colorful
vegetable-promises of things to
come if we follow the rules and
plant them at the right time. I
had to stop and just look at a few.
SPRING…..a
date just circled on the calendar?
Not simply that.
SPRING…..promises
of new beginnings, Resurrection. Peace.
SPRING…..a glorious thing.
