HERE
COMES SUMMER~
SCENES AND SIGHTINGS FROM THE DIRECTOR'S
NOTEBOOK

It's
that time~SUMMERTIME~here in the United
States. This magnificent time of the
year always brings back wonderful
memories of growing up on a farm in
upstate New York.
The
first order of business was always
to plant the garden. This was a special
job I had with my Dad. Because of
the lingering cold, we often had to
wait well into June. We had started
our seeds weeks earlier and now had
spindly little seedlings to set out
in the fresh, moist earth: Tomatoes,
Peppers, Lettuce, all sorts of vegetables.
Oh, how we waited to pick that first
big, warm tomato from the vine. Of
course, we also planted plenty of
flowers~all sorts, all colors, the
more the better.

Then,
of course, there was summer swimming
in the creek. Early on, the mountain
water was so cold we just about turned
blue but not one of us guys would
dare get out of the water. As the
days finally grew warmer, we spent
hours diving, playing water tag and
just showing off.

Along
with swimming, I had great fun canoeing
with my pals. We explored all the
nooks and crannies and dug up assorted
bugs and other interesting creatures
along the riverbank. We particularly
enjoyed showing these to the neighborhood
girls!

Fishing
was superb in my neck of the woods,
too. It still is one of my favorite
pastimes, sitting on the shore, watching
the bobber bob, feeling that nibble.
What a life. Summertime…..

FUN.
CAREFREE DAYS. HAPPINESS.
WE PRAY THAT ALL OF THE WORLD'S CHILDREN
WILL ONE DAY KNOW THESE SIMPLE JOYS…OF
SUMMER AND OF A WORLD LIVING IN THE
LIGHT OF PEACE.
